Dear MnAPA
members:
As you know the
national APA conference is coming to our state next
year. The conference dates are April 25-29, 2009.
We want to show
everyone a good time and part of the fun is
MOBILE WORKSHOPS.
We would like you to put on your creative thinking
cap and start developing ideas for mobile
workshops. A formal request for proposals for
mobile workshops will be available online soon.
Before then, please think about where you would go
and what you would like to see if you were a planner
visiting our state. Here are some guidelines for
the workshops:
* The
Tracks for the 2009 APA Conference are:
Why Places Grow
Neighborhood
Planning in a Citywide Context
Green Urban
Design
Reclaiming the
Waterfront (and the Mississippi River )
Is Regional
Planning Coordinated Planning?
Civic Planning
and the Role of Foundations (mini track)
The Arts and
Culture Economy
Small Town and
Rural Planning
Youth Engagement
in Planning
Climate Change
and a Sustainable Future
The Changing Face
of the American Community
Planning and
Community Health and Activity
Transportation
Infrastructure: The Next Hundred Years
Don't let this
list limit you, however.
* You
should plan for at least 3 people to accompany the
mobile workshop to act as tour guides and talk about
the topic.
* Transportation modes can include
walking, biking, public transportation and motor coaches. All mobile workshops will start and
end at the Minneapolis Convention Center
*
Workshops should vary in length. The majority of
the workshops should range between 4 and 5.5 hours.
However, 10 to 15 percent of the workshops should be
less than three hours and 5 to 15 percent of the
workshops should be as long as eight hours.
* Plan
for a group of 50-100 people
An orientation
meeting for people wishing to submit a mobile
workshop proposal will be held this summer.
Let's have fun!
